Meet Lisa

Hi, I’m Lisa I am the owner / operator of Recalibrate Outdoors. I am a qualified and passionate outdoor educator with over a decade of experience operating in the outdoors professionally. I am a working mum to a feral 3-year-old and plodding through life trying to stay sane like many of us! From a young age I have always enjoyed the outdoors leading to a long-term stint in the Army Cadet Force as a cadet and latterly an instructor. I then decided the outdoors was for me and whilst I worked on becoming competent in outdoor adventure and leadership, I worked as a support practitioner for people with physical and learning disabilities, a role I very much enjoyed before plunging into the outdoors and working in the sector full-time! I have always battled with my own mental health, and the outdoors is where I find clarity, so after some thought, I established Recalibrate Outdoors, with an aim to helping people find balance in this current fast-paced, technology focused world we’re living in. I now spend my time with a mission to connect people with themselves, their communities and the environment, through the use of outdoor activities and education. The businessy bit – I am a member of the PVG scheme, checked regularly by Disclosure Scotland, I am a mental health first aider, outdoor first aider and hold professional qualifications in Climbing, Cycling, Walking, Paddlesport, Bushcraft and other outdoor activities. So, if you would like to reconnect with yourself, maybe just hit pause on ‘real-life’, get in touch and pop down for a brew over the fire.

FAQ's

Do I need experience to take part in the activities?

No! We are here to support you at whatever your level in the outdoors. We’ll find out
where you are at and we can tailor activities to suit your ability / level. We take a person-
centred approach.

I have health conditions, can I take part?

We would always recommend speaking to your GP first, however, we are able to tailor the
activities to suit experience level and ability. The best thing to do is phone for a chat – our
aim is to get everyone outdoors in a way that is accessible to them.

Are there age restrictions?

We have worked with children as young as 3 and adults of 75 years of age, everyone is
welcome, though for specific activities that involve sharp tools we do recommend 8+ though
we can offer alternatives in some cases to ensure everyone is able to participate.

Do you have a loo onsite?

We currently have a camping loo onsite, this is so that we do not damage the area around
us with human waste. The toilet is flushable, private and offers a sink to wash and dry your
hands.

Is there car-parking on site?

Yes, we have a gravel car park at our woodland activity site. It provides ample space for
around 6 cars at present. If you are organising a larger group activity, we recommend car-
sharing where possible.

Do we need to bring anything?

All activity related equipment is provided for you, all we ask is that you bring appropriate
clothing and a water bottle or snack should you feel you need this. Kit lists are
communicated where required.

Can I just turn up on the day?

Usually no, we require booking in advance. We do post public open events from time to
time where you can drop in on the day.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my activity?

We will assess the weather and determine whether it is safe to continue with the planned
activity. Most of our sessions will go ahead in most weather conditions. Should the weather
be deemed unsafe, then an alternative activity or date will be offered, or a full refund. If a
customer decides not to attend to cancels when Recalibrate Outdoors considers the weather
to be safe to go ahead, no refund will be offered.
